Torres signs for Blues following international clearance

Watersfield FC have signed Spanish midfielder Ayrton Rodríguez Torres, following international clearance from the English Football Association and the Spanish Football Federation. After weeks of speculation, the 27-year-old’s free transfer was approved by both parties, meaning Torres will be available for his Blues debut this Saturday, which will be the midfielder’s 28th birthday. Last season’s Division Five Central champions face Rudgwick Reserves at Alban Head, in the first round of the Division Four Charity Cup. The home side will be hoping for another thrilling cup run, after last season’s near-miss in the final of the Division Five equivalent. Following the announcement of Torres’ arrival, First XI manager Matt Dingle revealed his delight: “We are thrilled to finally see Ayrton put pen to paper. We strongly believe this signing represents the ambition of the club, both this season and for the future.

"As you'd expect from a Spaniard, he has great ability on the ball and wonderful composure, and his passing is second to none. We are sure he will enjoy his time here at Watersfield, and we look forward to him getting involved immediately this weekend." Kick-off for Saturday's cup encounter will be 2.30pm, to allow for extra-time and penalties, in the event of a stalemate after 90 minutes.
